UIR Lesson

Finally, UIR lesson has come to an end and I felt that UIR is a very beneficial subject as it is related to my day to day work. I can make use of what I have learnt in UIR and applies it when I am doing my research. Also, I have learnt how to evaluate the different categories of information resources on Internet and the quality of different Internet resources and much more.

During the 2 assignment, I have managed to evaluate the various internet search facilities and also to evaluate on the internet resources. From these 2 assignments given, I manage to know which internet search facilities are more efficient in doing research and their various function such as the preference icon and the advanced search icon that will help us to narrow down our searches. In addition, other than the usual search engine I have used, Yahoo, I am also exposed to other search facilities such as MetaData- Meta Crawler, Subject Directory- Galaxy etc.

UIR also enhances my knowledge in categorizing the Internet Resources and able to identify difference categories such as WWW sites, Online Forum, Databases etc
I am also able to identify the different purposes of Internet resources such as advocacy, entertainment and information etc.
In summary, I think that UIR let me exposed to a lot of things which I have never knoe before and with these learning and skills, I think I am able to do my research more successfully. Thanks UIR :)

This week during our practical lesson, we are supposed to do our assignment 2 as well as to compile information of what our group has done. We discuss and put the relevant factor inside the wet paint. We also summarized our work so as to make it as brief as possible so as to let the reader understand better.

Hi, this week is another E-learning week. For this week, we are supposed to find our research and post our research on the wet paint. We have distributed our work and individually, we find what are the impacts on economy that are caused by terrorism.
After researching, I think that I have a better understanding of my topic and have also identified some of the important factors like Gross Domestic Product, tourism and foreign investment. I also found some forums that are related to terrorism, after browsing the forum, I found out the opinions of the people outside on their views upon terrorism. This has enhanced me with more knowledge.

Reflection

I have look and analysis the website by looking at the aim, purposes, coverage etc etc.
BY comparsion with the 1st website, think that this website is somwhow less details and it did not really have relevant external links by comparsion.

However, 1 advantage of this website is it is well organised unlike the 1st website which is quite messy..

Today, after our UIR test, we were asked to start on our assignment 2 which is evaluation of internet resources. Our group is doing the topic on Impact of terrorism on world economy. In our group, We have identified the keysword and variations to the keywords so as to do our research easier

Reflection
This pratical lesson allows us to explore the website on our own to to identify and evaluate the internet resources on the purpose, Coverage, Authority, Accuracy, Currency and others. This practical in evaluating website criteria helps me to better understand the web site better. As for this particular website, http://meria.idc.ac.il/journal/2006/issue3/jv10no3a9.html, which I am going to evaluate on, I found that the information is very comprehensive and the information are factual as they are written by professionals. In conclusion, I think that the website could make improvement on the backgrounds colour and to classify the information better.

TODAY, the topic i am researching on is "Discuss the impact of drugs abuse on youths"
we need to make use of the various search facilitites to do our research. we need to use the 3 search tools which are the Search engine, Meta search engine and Subject directory.

Reflection
After doing the research, several learning points i learnt was:

All the search facilities allow us to find relevant information through the inputs of keywords that allows us to find information that are relevant to us. After searching, all of them would show the website title and also a short description.Search engine and subject directory allows us to find relevant keywords easily through the finding of keywords in the website and is easy to navigate as well. However, for the meta search engine I found it rather difficult to navigate as it is being classified to difficult subjects. Overall, I would prefer the subject directory search facility best compared to the other search methods as it helps us to search on the subject we are looking for.

Reflection
After research on the topic by using several resources, I get to know more of what the internet can provide us with different kinds of information. Some of the website will give us factual information, whereas others will give us opinion etc. From this practical session, I am able to identify the difference categories of resources and what are the differences between them. In additonal, i am also able to evaluate the difference categories if internet information resources and the search facilities.

Reflection
After doing the research on this topic- impact of drugs abuse on youth, i found out that different people have different perspective towards DRUG, some people think drugs are bad whereas others may think otherwise. I also managed to get some ideas regarding how the drug can affect not only our health but also our mental.
Also, through this pratical 2, I am able to identify the different types of websites and would be able to make comparison on the different types of website. Also through this lesson, i manage to learn how to identify the various categories of information resources and make comparsion on the different purposes.

Reflection (1st Nov 2007)

Today is the first time having UIR lesson. Felt very happy as I’m sure that this will be a subject that I can make full use of it next time whenever I do research or others. In this session, we were asked to open a new blog, which I choose blogspot.com as my blogger.

Let me tell u all more about me.
I am currently 18, pursing Diploma in Financial Business Informatics. I have 3 other family members which include my dad, my mum and my sis. During my free time, I like to watch movies, listen to songs, sing, and shop, surf the net and my favorite sport is badminton. I like all fruits except papaya and mango :)
